Biomaterials and Chemical Solutions – Endoscopy Division
Location: Marlborough, MA (Hybrid)
About the role:
The Biomaterials and Chemical Solutions team within the Endoscopy Division has an exciting opportunity for a Senior R&D Engineer supporting new and existing products. This specialty team provides guidance on material challenges for programs across the division, supporting the creation, development and sustainment of innovative technologies that directly impact patients’ lives. This Senior Engineer will be a key team member in providing guidance specifically on metal-based materials. This role is anticipated to grow into a Subject Matter Expert role and is best suited for someone with a strong desire to expand your knowledge of metals and material science.
As Senior Engineer, you will support teams facing multi-faceted technical challenges, requiring applied in-depth problem-solving competencies. You will be responsible for providing materials support including providing recommendations and executing design, testing, implementation and evaluation of medical devices within our Endoscopy portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Researches, develops, designs, and evaluates metal-based materials, components, assemblies, and/ or associated processes and equipment.
- Develops solutions to diverse engineering problems using ingenuity and creativity. Leverages internal/external partners as necessary to achieve project objectives.
- Independently plans and organizes project tasks with showing the ability to prioritize tasks, execute, and direct others
- Leverages knowledge of sterilization, biocompatibility, shelf life, & packaging to inform design decisions and accelerate project schedules.
- Meets with global thought leaders in discipline or technology. Studies and understands relevant published articles and works for application to company projects and initiatives.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills to address complex challenges and makes sound design recommendations.
- Designs and coordinates complex engineering tests and experiments.
- Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from complex test results.
- Designs and prepares complex reports to communicate results to technical community. Provides clear communication to Technical Leaders at key technical updates.
- Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment.
- Works cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success.
- Participates in writing and submission of intellectual property (patents).
- Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
- May provide training and/or provide work direction to technicians and entry-level engineers.
Minimum Required qualifications:
- BS degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, Bioengineering or similar.
- 5+ Years of work experience with metals with Bachelor’s Degree, (MS will substitute for 2 years of work experience, PhD will substitute for 4 years).
- Passion for materials science and continued learning
- Experience managing technical aspects of projects as a member of a cross-functional core team
- Demonstrated strong cross-functional collaboration
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience with Nitinol highly desired.
- Proven self-starter who runs towards critical issues, ambiguous requirements, or loosely defined challenges with a demonstrated ability to rally teams to achieve business results.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.
- Advanced degree a plus.

Base Salary Range:
Minimum Salary: $ 84000
Maximum Salary: $ 159600
The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com--will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.
Compensation for exempt roles also includes variable compensation, i.e., annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
