Systems Engineering Fellow   Cardiology 

Maple Grove, MN

 

 

In this highly visible role as an experienced Systems Engineering Fellow, you will provide Systems Engineering direction to an interdisciplinary team of engineering professionals working on electromechanical design, software development, risk management, security, and usability. You will be responsible for growing the Systems Engineering practice in a growing, successful organization.  The Systems Engineering Fellow will lead the design and development of medical device systems from project conception to post-realization in support of the Interventional Cardiology division.

 

Be a part of one of Boston Scientific’s most product-diverse divisions, supporting R&D in the design of exciting new products and business development activities. These products adhere to industry standards and include computing devices, single-use devices, and support devices.

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical direction and system-level expertise across development teams working on the design and development of complex medical device systems.
  • Leading product development on a complete system
  • Facilitating cross-functional decision-making on difficult technical issues with long-standing impact and communicating these decisions effectively.
  • Securing agreement on technical strategies across functional management and business leadership teams.
  • Specifying the architecture and design of these systems, including physical and functional approaches and the management of all system interfaces.
  • Leading the integration of system elements, including internally and externally sourced items comprising both hardware and software components.
  • Leading the deployment of Systems Engineering best practices across projects, including system concepting and design, requirement elicitation, and sustainable documentation.
  • Managing technical progress on projects by understanding and troubleshooting issues as they arise and communicating status to key project stakeholders.
  • Solving system problems through modeling, simulation, mathematical analysis, and/or systems interaction testing/analysis and providing recommendations for corrective action.
  • Defining system partitioning (i.e. hardware/software partitioning) and coordinating total system integration.
  • Mentoring other engineers on practices/methodologies related to your domain knowledge.
  • Coordinating system testing including characterization, verification, and validation.
  • Participating in or leading the Risk Analysis discussions for the project.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience developing and specifying HW/SW systems.
  • Proven experience in leading complex system analysis from concept through commercialization.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for solving problems.
  • Strong proficiency in creating and improving system and product requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including problem resolution.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Substantial System Architecture & Design experience would be great (incl. system modeling), as well as someone with significant process improvement experience.
  • MS/PhD in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 10 or more years of experience in a formal Systems Engineering role.
  • Medical Device industry experience in design controls with a focus on user needs, intended use, system requirements, system design, and traceability.
  • Experience with risk management, including the identification of effective risk controls.
  • Experience in human factors engineering, usability, or ergonomic design.
  • Experience specifying and supporting cybersecurity design principles.
  • Proven project leader with experience leading teams on high-visibility/high-priority new technology ventures.
