About the role:

As part of the External Operations team supporting Sourced Finished Medical Devices, the Supplier Engineer assists with the design and development of manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems to meet manufacturing delivery targets, minimize costs, and ensure product quality.  This role is responsible for evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering methods, while exercising discretion to implement adjustments that drive improvements at the BSC Finished Good Suppliers.  

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with global contract manufacturers and suppliers to support assembly and finished good manufacturing processes 
  • Drive improvement and problem-solving projects impacting customers, manufacturing lines, and support functions by applying DMAIC or PDCA leading to Value Improvement Process (VIP) savings.
  • Understand, leverage, sustain, and improve the following: Work Content Graph (line balancing), Standard Work, Equipment Capacity, 5S, 8 Wastes, Value Stream Mapping, Flow and Pull, Continuous Improvement Systems and Kaizens.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to qualify and improve supplier processes; plan, schedule, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering projects
  • Compiling data and communicating results to the project team
  • Maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures to support the BSC commitment to patient safety and product quality
  • Partnering with senior engineers to lead and support projects for product qualification, change management, process development, cost reduction, capacity management, and all related PDM activity

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in an engineering role (1+ year with a master’s degree considered)
  • 6 - 12+ months of manufacturing experience 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Lean Principles, Systems, and Tools
  • Ability to travel up to 20% (domestic and international)

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Industrial, Biomedical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing, or similar
  • Proven ability to drive process improvement initiatives and lead small project teams
  • Experience with validation and qualification of manufacturing processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to develop and present ideas via visual communication methods 
  • Experience working with suppliers and/or contract manufacturers
  • Organized and detail-oriented; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
