About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior R&D Engineer focusing on R&D integration activities related to the recent acquisition of Bolt Medical in Carlsbad, CA. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and make a significant impact on patient care and clinical outcomes within the Interventional Cardiology division here at Boston Scientific.

 

This role requires a temporary relocation to Carlsbad, CA for a period of 6 to 24 months. Boston Scientific will provide support for relocation and temporary living expenses. At the conclusion of the temporary assignment, the role will return to Maple Grove, MN. Please apply only if you're comfortable with this arrangement.

 

Work Mode:
At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows an onsite work model, requiring employees to be in our Maple Grove, MN, and Carlsbad, CA offices at least four to five days per week.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • One (1) year assignment onsite at Bolt Medical in Carlsbad, CA with the option to return to Maple Grove, MN at the conclusion of the integration activities.
  • Assist with the technical integration of acquired hardware designs, taking direction from the R&D Console Lead.
  • Participate in on-site meetings and design reviews; assist in all aspects of the hardware design process.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality, Operations, and Clinical teams, to define integration requirements and develop detailed project plans.
  • Conduct thorough technical assessments of existing systems and identify potential integration challenges and solutions.
  • Develop and implement integration strategies, including data migration, system configuration, and interface development.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant medical device regulations and standards, including IEC 60601-1, 60601-1-2, and other applicable safety standards.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including BOM structures, Design Outputs, and other applicable documents that will be stored in Windchill.
  • Simulate and test integrated systems to ensure functionality, performance, and reliability.
  • Provide clear and effective communication to stakeholders, including senior leadership, regarding project status, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations at cross-functional meetings and persuade stakeholders to agree on proposed approaches.
  • Creates test methods, test method validations, component qualifications, protocols, and reports.
  • Drives organizational collaboration, helping make impactful decisions that drive organizational success.
  • Applies business and industry best practices and knowledge of internal/external business challenges to improve products, processes, or services
  • In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to all documented quality processes and procedures

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related hardware field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in R&D, with a focus on medical device design.
  • Previous medical device integration and acquisition experience (or similarly regulated field).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong technical background in medical electrical projects, including architectural design and compliance with medical safety standards like IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2.
  • Knowledge of data migration and system configuration best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
